The real beauty is inside

All Soaply products are at least 99% natural and we are proud of that! But we are not quite there yet, because 100% natural… That is our goal! We lead the way in the development and use of renewable raw materials. So they are of vegetable or mineral origin, without petroleum. When selecting ingredients that are good enough for Seepje products, we pay attention to their origin, your health and their environmental impact!

What's nót in it?

Did you know that for detergents and cleaning products, it’s not mandatory to list all ingredients on the product packaging? As a result, as a consumer, you cannot immediately know whether your detergent contains, for example, synthetic fragrances and dyes! The ingredients in this list do not meet our requirements for ingredients. They do more bad than good, we think.

  • Petroleum-based cleaners

Ingredients that provide the cleaning effect of detergents and cleaning products are called ‘surfactants’. They soak off grease and dirt and ensure it remains dissolved in water. The basic ingredient for these cleaners is vegetable or animal oil. This oil is chemically processed into cleaners, many regular detergents and polishes use petroleum-based ingredients for this processing. Petroleum is a fossil raw material, so it runs out at some point, and also causes a lot of greenhouse gas emissions.

Soaply only uses 100% natural cleaners and we do not compromise on the effectiveness of these cleaners. A good example of this is the ingredient Sodium laureth sulphate, a very effective cleaner that (normally) unfortunately consists of 16 to 25% petroleum. Soaply has replaced the petroleum-based Ethylene oxide in this ingredient with plant-based sugar molasses. Shoulder pat to ourselves! Because this makes our Sodium laureth sulphate 100% natural and just as effective.

So only natural cleaners for Soaply, including the natural soap from the Sapindus mukorossi fruit from the Himalayas!

  • Synthetic parfume

A nice scent in your detergent and cleaning product, you can probably appreciate that! Yet you often have no way of knowing exactly what fragrances are in them. After all, ‘perfume’ is a collective name for thousands of ingredients. Some natural, but most synthetic and possibly even harmful. Pretty crazy, right?

Soaply uses only 100% natural perfumes, based on essential oils and plant extracts.

  • Synthetic dyes

From ocean blue to sparkling green, the liquid of detergents and cleaning products usually have bright colours. So they stand out when you’re standing in front of the shelf, and it suggests the product is extra powerful. Necessary? Not really…

Adding a limited number of dyes is allowed, but it is not mandatory to list these ingredients, denoted by CI (Colour Index), on the packaging. The most commonly used dyes in detergents and cleaning products are synthetic (petroleum-based).

All our products are free of dyes! Where does the yellow-orange colour in our detergents and cleaners come from? That’s simple! It comes from the natural soap of the shell of the Sapindus mukorossi fruit. When we extract it, the liquid takes on this colour!

  • Microplastics

A large proportion of detergents contain microplastics, according to Austrian research. Besides microplastics that come off during washing due to wear and tear on synthetic clothes (such as polyester), there are also microplastics added to detergents and cosmetics by manufacturers. There are two different types of microplastics: microbeads, small spheres in solid form, and liquid microplastics. Of these liquid polymers, it is unclear to what extent they break down naturally in the environment. Despite the fact that in the Netherlands the vast majority of polymers are fished out of wastewater by treatment plants, there is a chance that microplastics still end up in the sea and eventually in the food chain. Better not, then!

Polymers are added to increase washing power or prevent grey haze, but is that really necessary? Soaply doesn’t think so! We use plenty of natural ingredients to boost washing power and put as little strain on the environment as possible. We use only natural ingredients and put as little strain on the environment as possible.

But, you can do even more against microplastics: the type of clothes in the washing machine also matters! While washing synthetic laundry (like polyester), friction is created in the washing machine and very small particles of plastic are released.  So choose natural materials as much as possible and use a fabric softener to reduce fibre loss by 35%.

  • Optical brighteners

White clothes and textiles yellow over time. Optical brighteners in detergents stick to your laundry and reflect UV radiation as blue light. As the name suggests, it is an optical illusion… A kind of magic trick, because the effect is only short-lived! The most commonly used whiteners are sulphonic acids. Despite having a natural origin, they are not biodegradable.

Don’t expect any magic tricks when you choose Soaply laundry detergent for white washing! In our laundry detergent, the washing active ingredients are dosed higher, such as the ingredients Capryl/Caprylyl glucoside and Sodium carbonate. Powerful against stains, in other words! To give your white laundry a boost, you can add oxygen bleach from time to time. This is a natural stain remover and whitener in powder form!

What ís in it?

The best natural ingredients for a cleaner and more beautiful world! At Soaply, we are open about it because we want you, the user, to be able to make an informed choice. What’s more, we even put our ingredients in understandable language on our products! On the various product pages in our Soaply Shop, you can see the ingredients in each product. The international ecocert label also confirms that more than 99% of our ingredients are of natural origin!

Cleaners

  • Sapindus mukorossi shells and extract

    Category: plant-based
Origin: grows on Sapindus trees in Nepal and contains a natural form of soap.
Found in: laundry detergents, all-purpose cleaners, washing-up liquids, hand soaps and the laundry soap bar and dishwashing soap bar.

The shells of the Sapindus mukorossi fruit grow in abundance in the Himalayas and contain a natural form of soap. In your washing machine, they release this soap! For a naturally clean and soft wash.

  • Caprylyl/Capryl glucoside

    Category: plant-based
Origin: made of sugar from maize, coconut oil and RSPO-certified palm kernel oil.
Found in: all-purpose cleaners, washing-up liquids and the laundry soap bar.

This ingredient consists (partly) of RSPO-certified palm oil. In our opinion, the current (RSPO) certification still gives too little assurance of fair trade practices with respect for all stakeholders and the environment. The ingredient itself is the most efficient, effective renewable ingredient for applications. As far as we are concerned, there is no doubt about that. In terms of manufacture, things could be much better, we would love to source even much better palm oil in a transparent, fair way. We need more volume for that, so wash-with us the world cleaner ánd brighter!

  • Sodium carbonate

    Category: mineral
    Origin: occurs naturally in limestone.
    Found in: all-purpose cleaners.

  • Laureth-7

    Category: Plant-based
Origin: made from RSPO certified palm oil
    Found in: detergents

This powerful cleaner gets rid of stains, but is gentle to the colours of your laundry! But the best thing is: this ingredient normally consists mainly of Ethylene Oxide, which is extracted from petroleum. We use a variant extracted from sugar molasses, so it is completely natural!

  • Potassium oleate

    Category: Plant-based
Origin: Made from RSPO certified palm oil
    Found in: detergents

Cleans your laundry and keeps it from becoming a foam party in your washing machine.

  • Sodium lauryl sulfaat (SLS)

    Category: Plant-based
Origin: Made from RSPO-certified palm kernel oil and sulphur.
    Found in: detergents, washing-up liquids

An all-natural cleaner that degreases well! Despite the fact that the ingredient SLS is known to be not skin-friendly, it has no negative impact on the skin-friendliness of the overall formulation of our detergents. After all, these are pH skin-neutral. This is partly because we dose SLS very carefully. First of all, we combine it with the ingredient Cocamidopropyl betaine, which takes the sharp edges off the SLS away. And because Soaply uses several mild cleaners, we use relatively less SLS than other detergents.

Origin: Made from RSPO-certified palm kernel oil and sugar cane.
    Found in: washing-up liquids

Regular Glycereth – 6 cocoate is made partly (about 66%) from petroleum-based ingredients. We have worked with our supplier to produce a 100% natural variant, replacing petro-chemical ingredients with sugar molasses-based ingredients. An ingredient to be proud of: Soaply is the first in the world to deploy this ingredient!

This ingredient consists (partly) of RSPO-certified palm oil. In our opinion, the current (RSPO) certification still gives too little assurance of fair trade practices with respect for all stakeholders and the environment. Softener

  • Dipalmitoylethyl hydroxyethylmonium methosulfate

    Category: plant-based
Origin: made from RSPO-certified palm kernel oil.
    Found in: fabric softeners.

Psst… few people know, but there’s a big fat animal surprise in many regular fabric softeners. Ingredients with the word ‘tallow’ in them are made from animal fats.

Fortunately, you can also care for your laundry without animal fat and protect it from fibre loss. Our fabric softener is the first to be declared 100% natural ánd Vegan, and it’s partly because of this innovative ingredient.

This ingredient consists (partly) of RSPO-certified palm oil. Wait a minute, this is starting to sound like a chemistry lesson… Don’t panic, it’s quite simple: Enzymes ‘cut up’ grease and dirt, so to speak, making it easier for the cleaners to remove it from your favourite jeans. Moreover, the enzyme Cellulase reduces the grey haze that develops in white clothes over time, and it ensures that coloured clothes remain vibrant.
